Tasting Note

Antinori Solaia 2004 is rich, complex, and beautifully evolved. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, dried cherry, and violet intertwine with notes of graphite, cedar, tobacco, and warm spice. The palate is plush yet structured, showing silky tannins, layered dark fruit, and savoury depth. Hints of leather, cocoa, and dried herbs emerge with air, leading to a long, harmonious finish. Mature, elegant, and exquisitely balanced—this is Solaia at its finest.

About the Winery, Production & Critical Reputation

Solaia is one of Italy’s most iconic wines, crafted by Marchesi Antinori from a choice parcel within the Tignanello estate in Chianti Classico. The 2004 vintage—widely considered one of the greatest Tuscan vintages of the 2000s—allowed Antinori to produce a masterpiece. Made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese, it was aged in French oak to achieve power, polish, and longevity. Critics were unanimous in their praise: Wine Advocate (97), Wine Spectator (96), and James Suckling (98) all highlighted its depth, elegance, and extraordinary aging capacity. Two decades on, the 2004 stands as a benchmark Solaia—fully mature, profoundly expressive, and one of the most collectible Tuscan wines of its era.
