Tasting Notes

Guimaro Finca Meixeman is a refined and mineral-driven expression of Mencía, showing aromas of wild raspberry, red cherry, blackberry, violet, and fresh herbs alongside notes of cracked pepper, graphite, and crushed stone. The palate is energetic and beautifully structured, with vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a distinctive savoury mineral character. Red and dark fruit carry through to a long, fresh finish with floral, earthy, and subtly smoky nuances.

About the Winery, Production & Critical Reputation

Guimaro is one of the benchmark producers of Ribeira Sacra, the dramatic wine region of northwestern Spain known for its extraordinarily steep vineyards overlooking the Sil and Miño rivers. The estate is run by the Rodríguez family, with winemaker Pedro Rodríguez producing wines that have helped bring international attention to Ribeira Sacra and its indigenous varieties.

Finca Meixeman is a single-vineyard wine produced predominantly from Mencía, with small amounts of other traditional local varieties potentially present in the old-vine plantings. The vineyard's steep slopes and slate-rich soils contribute to the wine's distinctive combination of perfume, freshness, structure, and mineral intensity. Traditional fermentation and restrained élevage allow the vineyard and Mencía's naturally aromatic character to remain at the forefront. Guimaro's wines have developed a strong following among sommeliers and collectors, with Finca Meixeman representing a more serious, structured, and age-worthy expression of the estate's style.
