Tasting Note

Pascal Cotat Les Monts Damnés Sancerre 2023 is intense, mineral-driven, and profoundly expressive. Aromas of lime zest, grapefruit pith, white peach, and fresh herbs are layered with pronounced flinty and chalky notes. The palate is powerful yet precise, showing concentrated citrus and stone fruit framed by racy acidity and a deep limestone core. Structured, saline, and long, it finishes with exceptional tension—serious, site-driven Sancerre built for both contemplation and aging.

About the Winery, Production & Critical Reputation

Pascal Cotat is one of Sancerre’s most revered traditionalists, crafting wines that prioritize terroir, longevity, and natural balance over overt aromatic polish. Les Monts Damnés is a legendary steep, south-facing hillside of Kimmeridgian limestone, long considered one of Sancerre’s greatest vineyards and capable of producing wines of Grand Cru–level intensity. Farmed with old vines and vinified with minimal intervention, Cotat’s wines are often fermented and aged in large neutral vessels, allowing site expression to dominate. The 2023 vintage delivered purity, energy, and excellent ripeness, and critics consistently praise Cotat’s Monts Damnés for its power, minerality, and extraordinary aging potential—frequently scoring it in the mid-to-high 90s. This bottling stands as one of the most serious expressions of Sauvignon Blanc in the world.
