Tasting Notes
Elegant, layered, and distinctly complex, this Fumé Blanc offers aromas of Meyer lemon, grapefruit, white peach, and melon alongside notes of orange blossom, fresh herbs, toasted almond, and subtle vanilla. The palate combines vibrant citrus-driven acidity with a rich, creamy texture, revealing layers of stone fruit, lemon curd, and savoury mineral character. Refined oak and impressive concentration carry through a long, fresh, and beautifully structured finish.
About the Winery, Production & Critical Reputation
Robert Mondavi Winery has an especially important connection to Sauvignon Blanc, with Robert Mondavi famously adopting the name Fumé Blanc in the late 1960s as part of his effort to establish a more serious style of the variety in California. This Reserve bottling comes from the legendary To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, one of Napa Valley's most historically significant and highly regarded vineyard sites. Sauvignon Blanc forms the foundation of the wine, traditionally complemented by Sémillon, with barrel fermentation and maturation adding texture, depth, and complexity. The combination of To Kalon fruit and Mondavi's long experience with barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc results in a distinctive Napa white capable of developing considerable complexity with bottle age. The Reserve Fumé Blanc has long been regarded as one of California's benchmark expressions of Sauvignon Blanc.
